Hi, I’m your host, Dr. Chandra Clarke. I’m a recovering/relapsing entrepreneur, author, and parent. You can visit my main website at www.chandrakclarke.com.

As a lifelong time science fiction (SF) fan, I have always believed that, if you can look past the trappings (weird looking aliens, pew pew lasers etc.), the genre has a lot to offer both society as a whole and individuals. This site is a multi-part experiment that will culminate in a book about the practical uses for science fiction that I’ve wanted to write since I finished my PhD a few years ago.

As I research, I’ll be posting my notes here, as part of a sort of [[writing as thinking]] and writing as networking approach. I’m using Obsidian and the Zettelkasten method for note taking. Whenever you see square brackets, that denotes posts I plan to write, but that I haven’t done and linked yet.

If you arrive here in the early days, I’m sure it will be hard to see where I am going with all of this as the connections between the concepts I’m looking at won’t be at all clear. That’s in part how the research process goes; you research, you make notes about things that resonate or catch your eye. Some of it will coalesce into a coherent argument, some of it might end up in some undefined future project. And some of it will inevitably just end up on the cutting room floor because it was nothing more than an intellectual shiny object.

Comments on individual posts welcome! Please consider subscribing using the form below; I’ll do periodic digest emails so that you can follow along and perhaps fall down a rabbit hole or two.
